Pear Sauce

A warm and cozy fall alternative to applesauce. I chose to use Bartlett pears but any will do— just be sure they’re ripe: the naturally sweeter the pear, the sweeter the sauce! Smother this goodness on toast, waffles, oatmeal, or sub it for jelly in your classic PB&J. It can also be a wonderful food for babies as they are easy to digest and hypoallergenic. Store in an air-tight container for a week in the fridge or freeze to enjoy throughout the winter.

Ingredients

  • 10 medium ripe pears
  • ¼ cup of filtered water
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Directions

  • Wash, peel, and core pears. Cut into one-inch pieces.
  • In a large saucepan, add pears, water, and cinnamon if using. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat and simmer. Stir occasionally, until pears have softened, about 25–30 minutes.
  • Remove from heat. Use an immersion blender to puree or use a potato masher for a chunkier sauce.
